Abstract

The thesis examines the state of credit risk in the banking system of Uzbekistan and the issues of its prevention on the basis of Central Bank data for 2023-2026. The analysis shows that key risk indicators improved: the non-performing loan ratio fell to 2.9 percent, provision coverage rose to 52.6 percent and large exposures declined relative to Tier 1 capital. At the same time, rapid growth of retail lending, the high cost of credit risk and the rise of problem loans in 2026 point to new sources of risk. Measures to strengthen preventive credit risk management are proposed, including early warning systems, debt burden limits and forward-looking provisioning.
