COMPARATIVE SYNTAX: FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENCES OF WORD ORDER IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK

Abstract

The study of syntax, particularly in a comparative context, offers critical insight into how different languages structure meaning and organize sentence components. One of the most revealing aspects of syntactic comparison is the investigation of word order, which directly reflects the underlying grammatical, semantic, and pragmatic systems of a language. English and Uzbek, representing two different language families—Germanic and Turkic respectively—display striking contrasts in their basic word order patterns, functional use, and flexibility.
