Linguistic Features of United Nations Security Council Resolutions: A Critical Discourse Analysis

Abstract

This article investigates the linguistic characteristics of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis. The research aims to demonstrate how institutional authority and power relations are embedded and reproduced through language in international legal texts. By analyzing lexical patterns, modal constructions, syntactic organization, and pragmatic functions, the study argues that UNSC resolutions operate as discursive mechanisms that legitimize hierarchical structures in global governance rather than functioning as purely neutral legal documents. The findings contribute to discourse-oriented studies of international law and political communication.
