Abstract

Idiomatic expressions represent one of the most culturally significant layers of language because they preserve and transmit information about the worldview, traditions, values, social relations, and historical experience of a speech community. This article examines the linguocultural features of selected idiomatic expressions in Uzbek and Russian from a comparative perspective. Particular attention is paid to their figurative imagery, semantic structure, cultural connotations, and national-specific elements. The analysis focuses on idiomatic expressions associated with human behavior, emotions, interpersonal relationships, cooperation, hospitality, and work. The study demonstrates that Uzbek and Russian idioms frequently express similar universal concepts while employing different culturally determined images. At the same time, some idiomatic expressions reveal a high degree of semantic and figurative correspondence between the two languages. The article also discusses the challenges of translating idioms and emphasizes the importance of functional and culturally appropriate equivalents. The findings demonstrate that idioms should be viewed not merely as fixed combinations of words but as linguistic representations of cultural knowledge, collective experience, and national worldview. Their comparative study can contribute to linguocultural research, translation studies, foreign-language teaching, and intercultural communication.
