THE LINGUISTIC AND COGNITIVE FEATURES OF SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION

Abstract

Simultaneous interpretation is a highly demanding linguistic activity that combines comprehension and speech production in real time. This paper analyzes the linguistic and cognitive features that define simultaneous interpretation. It focuses on how interpreters restructure syntax, adapt lexical items, manage information flow, and employ cognitive strategies under time pressure. The research highlights the importance of working memory, bilingual competence, and anticipation mechanisms in ensuring accuracy and coherence. Findings demonstrate that linguistic adaptability and cognitive multitasking form the foundation of effective simultaneous interpreting.
