Abstract

Stenography is a special writing system designed for the rapid recording of speech, in which shortened graphic representations of words and specific suffixes (affixes) are widely used. Stenographic affixes are based on the grammatical and semantic units found in ordinary writing, but their primary function is to make writing more compact and faster. Therefore, analyzing the linguistic and semantic characteristics of affixes is essential for an in-depth study of stenography systems.Affixes are morphemes that attach to the root of a word to form new meanings or grammatical forms, and in stenography systems, they serve as the main source of abbreviation. This article provides a linguistic and semantic analysis of affixes in Uzbek and English stenography writing, discussing their similarities and differences from a comparative perspective.
